Giant Flea Market Finds

Good morning bloggers. We have now returned from our mini vintage getaway and I think it was definitely worth the trip. The Giant Flea Market at Shepton Mallet was absolutely huge and we didn't even make it all the way round as there was just so much to look at. Since we didn't really go to the flea market with a clear idea of what we were looking for it was hard not to look at what every stall had to offer. However half way through the day I realised that I wanted to focus on vintage Disney memorabilia and walked away with quite a few treasures.

First up was the ViewMaster and some Disney reels to go inside it. I managed to get hold of Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book and Alice in Wonderland. I've got a feeling this could turn into a bit of an addiction! These can either be saved to keep viewing back to or I can use them as decorations for scrap projects or for my mini configuration boxes. Total cost: £9

Next up, I found a cute little Mickey figurine which I already have plans for as this little mouse can sit in my Disney configuration box. Perfect. Cost:£2

On the look out for toy stalls and vintage memorabilia, the next treasure I found were some Disney snap cards which have really gorgeous vintage imagery of the Disney characters from Mickey Mouse to Snow White and Donald Duck. Not sure what I might use these for yet but they are such a cute size that I could use them on a variety of small and large crafting projects. Cost:£1

My final find was a lovely 1960s Disney Biscuit tin which I managed to get for £16. The imagery going round the tin includes Peter Pan, Snow White, Bambi and many others. This tin will look perfect on my shelf in the craft room, storing all sorts of bits and bobs. Probably my favourite find of the day.

I did find a lovely collection of Cinderella 1950s French postcards (set of 15) which I did fall in love with, however I didn't fall in love with the price, as it was a bit out of my league costing £80. I did manage to knock the stall holder down to £60 however I felt that was still a little extravagant. Oh well there is always Ebay.

So what did mother buy.............

Well lets start with the biggest and most expensive piece of the day which was a vintage till , costing £32 which is actually quite a bit of a bargain as the till was in excellent condition and came with an instruction set and key. We are still wondering where to display this beauty at home, somewhere between the kitchen and the craft room at the moment.

Next up is a beautiful teapot which we really did need to complete our collection of this tea set. We already had the teacups, saucers and plates so this teapot would be an added bonus to our beautiful collection. And it wasn't bad at £22.

A few last bits that mum picked up was a box full of embroidery transfers, costing £3, not sure what we might do with those yet but the box is so decorative that it will look lovely on a shelf in the craft room for the time being.Mum also picked up some vintage flowers, trimmings and buttons which we can never have enough of.

All in all it has been a very successful weekend and I think Julie, our crafting enthusiast who joined us on the trip, was also very overwhelmed by the amount of vintage treasures we came across. She also went home with a lot of goodies, though we were very well behaved as we all managed to fit in the car comfortably on the way home!

A new found love

Good morning bloggers. As promised I want to share with you some of the fabric hanging hearts I have been making as I never knew I could love sewing like this. It may only be using the most basic of sewing techniques but once you get the hang of it they are so simple to make and you can do so many different designs.

I created these hearts in two different sizes, and its up to you if you want to add a lacey pocket to put a photo in. The larger hearts work best with a hanger to hang them up which you can get from Melissa Frances, whereas for the smaller hearts I tended to use a bit of twine to hang them with. If you have a stash of unwanted brooches then definitely use one at the bottom of the heart to attach a little bit of lace at the ends.

Hope everyone had a good weekend and I will be sharing some news on forthcoming trips and parties soon.

Glorious Emporium

Hi bloggers, yesterday was another sunny day here in the South East and again we were off finding vintage treasures. This time at a place called Miss Mabel's Magnificent Emporium at Victoria Business Park in Burgess Hill. Being on an industrial estate, we weren't quite sure what to expect but as soon as you walk through the door you are presented with a large open space, inticing you in with all its vintage glory. The emporium is made up from approximately 50 sellers, with everything arranged with such flair and character. The large number of sellers should definitely indicate to you all that this place is well worth a visit. They are currently on Facebook and you will be able to find out more details on how to find them and whats going on. I would also time it that you arrive just before lunch and treat yourself to a yummy toastie and cake at the Fork to Feast vintage tea shop inside. Below are a few photos from their facebook site to give you an idea of what you can expect.

All this crafting and vintage inspiration got me feeling creative so by the time we got home I was itching to get in that craft room and about 30 minutes later plus some added time for a quick trip to B&Q for some wire, I made this little beauty:

A vintage photo spool

So simple to create, just grab an old cotton spool, add some washi tape and lace and then make sure you have some stiff wire to spiral into shape and ta-da, you are done. Simples! Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I will share some more creations soon.

Time to unwind....

Hi bloggers, I've finally got round to making another post after a hectic few weeks. July has seemed to have flown past and every weekend we have been busy visiting craft events or hosting workshops so it was finally nice to have a little time out on Saturday. And what better way to relax then visit another vintage shop, this time a shop called Marmadukes in Midhurst. The week before at our Lampshade craft day we had been tipped off by Lynne to go and visit this shop as there were 3 floors of crammed in junk and vintage treasures, and Lynne was spot on. Just getting through the door seemed a bit of a mission with furniture and old sorts lying around, the walkways were only big enough for one person at a time.

After searching through piles of fabric and rooms full with old china, old furniture, vintage clothes and lots of lampshades, we found a few bits to take away with us. Mum bought up some fabric, an old slip garment and bags of cotton reels, which she has plenty of plans for.

We took a stroll around the rest of Midhurst which is full of quaint little shops each with their own unique style of products. We passed a gorgeous tearoom which I just had to take a picture of and the cakes in the window just looked divine.

So if you are looking for a little rest and relaxation I highly recommend a visit to Midhurst for an afternoon stroll. And an added bonus, the first car park on the way into Midhurst town is the cheapest car park I think I've ever seen. Check out the prices below:

Just before I go, a few weeks ago I shared a post of a fabric heart that I had made, which had surprised me because I really only knew the basic sewing techniques. However since making that one I have become addicted to these hearts and have made many more and they are really easy to make. I will share a few of my latest designs with you next time.
